Death, devious beast,
Why bother to sneak
We know you are coming,
It is not our longing
But if you must remind us
Of our inevitable end,
Do well to do so with solemnity,
Is it envy for our wasted opportunities
Or have you so desperately desired
for the love we have shared?
I understand that our scraps
Would give you the much needed warmth
But even you are aware of the sense of ‘duty’.
Death, weary beast,
Carry on with your humbling
And ignore our grumbling,
Allow yourself a smirk or two,
And maybe you will find peace too.
